Filmmaker Statement

Kitchen Stories has been around since about 2022 or 2023, whenI wondered about the importance of today's kitchen, and what possible stories a kitchen could tell, was it able to speak. At that time, we moved to a new apartment, and had no kitchen ourselves for quite some time, just a mobile induction field and a contact grill. For a person who tends to spend a lot of time in a kitchen, I love cooking and eating, it was quite an experience, when suddenly the kind of kitchen most people know and are used to is not given. When we finally got a new kitchen, it took some time until it didn't feel like "the new kitchen" anymore, compared to the ones already installed in rental apartments. They feel just like a given you just use them, they are there, having seen a multitude of tenants over the years. Imagine all the parties, all the love that goes into our food and relationships and selves, all the knowledge of how to prepare dishes, but also fights and heartbreak that happen in a kitchen.
