Filmmaker Statement

In some way this film is a message for all those who don't fit with society, it's a story about how separate elements create a whole - because they can stick together. Mutual human kindness is more important than political differences and disagreements. My message resonates most clearly in the story of Mrs. Lucynka and the anglers, i.e. seemingly mismatched companions who turn out to be unexpected allies in a situation of external threat. The film "Leben" (German: life) was created out of my need to capture the stage in life when we are no longer children or teenagers, but not yet adults, although we think so. Growing up in a world that is so atomized and seemingly full of possibilities is extremely difficult and leaves many young people feeling lost and alone, unable to satisfy their need to belong.
