I wanted to make a film about the exploitation of actors, which happens all the time in the industry. It's one thing to give someone expenses and a juicy part to play when you have no money; it's another thing to get someone along for free and use them as a prop. With that in mind, I wanted to explore these themes through a character driven comedy. We see the development (or devolution) of two people's relationship through the very thing that has brought them together: the lighting tests. It is a formally interesting way to chart their growing animosity. Hopefully in the end there is a sense of the universal desire of artists in any field to work at their craft, no matter the obstacles put in their way.
