When Amanda Perrin approached me to direct Margot's Off, there was no question, I was in. I chose to direct this project because I loved the subtle comedy and the awkwardness in the script, which is something I feel connected to and want the viewers to feel as well. It was also important to me to convey the isolated, insecure feeling of always having to defend yourself and your choices. Reckoning with past relationships and the growth that comes from that examination is something I love seeing depicted on screen. It was also important to me that despite the focus on terrible relationships, it remains optimistic as it portrays the small wins in life that are easily forgotten when we are stressed about finding love, paying bills and dealing with everyday problems.
