Filmmaker Statement

I'm drawn to stories about relatively small things. Slice-of-life portraits of intimate conversations and brief encounters that leave us forever changed. Me (and You) is just that – a brief encounter at a diner that changes the course of Odella’s life. My film is inspired by my sister-like relationship with my single mother who struggles to find a love good for her. I want to explore co-dependent relationships from both angles: a lovesick mother stuck in the cycle of abuse and a daughter who can't let her go. It’s about unconditional love and loss, from the eyes of a young optimistic daughter who believes she can carry the world (and her mother) on her shoulders. I want to capture humanness, flaws and all. The want to be and do better but failing and the hurt of watching someone you love do the wrong thing.
