When I first moved to Korea in my early 20s, it felt like I was at last coming home to a place I had only dreamt of. The sensation that perhaps in a different lifetime, I walked those same roads and saw the same familiar faces. I remained in Korea for two years, and the reality of things set in - that despite looking like everyone around me, I was an outsider. It was during my time in Korea that I first met and became aware of the hundreds of thousands of Korean adoptees across the world. In speaking to them and learning about their experiences, I was deeply affected by their complicated feelings on alienation and family. Speaking with these adoptees one on one reinforced my deep desire to tell this story - to explore the complicated but human experience of searching for identity, origins, and home.
