Filmmaker Statement

This is a low-budget, crowdfunded short film which was awarded a prize for being the best Filmmaking final project at the University of Sussex in 2022. It is an experimental melodramatic comedy which took half a year to develop in pre-production, mainly ensuring the puppet designer, Philip, and I were on the same page with character designs. As a writer I wanted a comedy, as a director I wanted a drama, so Pascal the Rascal sits between genres with coloured lighting, creative camera movements, comedic dialogue and characterisation, and hand-puppets.
