Filmmaker Statement

This film is about learning how to use forced perspective to create a world within a world. It was also a way to experiment with my desired style and direction. After struggling to develop the script, I made the choice to sacrifice a larger piece that would have been too ambitious for that point in my career. I was driving along the highway one morning when the refined idea came to me, so I wrote the script in a way that was not larger than life, but something that could be achieved within a $40,000 budget while leaving room for technical experimentation and creativity. The script marries stop motion, live action and visual effects. Having the art department at the forefront is a central element of my style. With a locked-off camera, almost no dialogue and a nuanced acting style, I took direct inspiration from Roy Andersson. The film is the manifestation of my imagination.
