Filmmaker Statement

Pink Eye is inspired by the short story "The Nose" by Nikolai Gogol, and speaks directly to the ridiculous pressure that we put on, what I've come to realize through age, very silly things. In working directly with the lead actress on the film, we latched into a character that has her world spiral for something extremely common when looked at in a vacuum. When this mundane moment forces her to lose control everything short circuits, and we both saw universal realities in that event with both our lives. Every day we wake up it's an obstacle course to maintain an illusion of control, and harder and harder to let go of that idea. The Pink Eye character allowed us to bend genre, and created a fantastic foil for the protagonist, which was also a joy.
