Being a US expat living in London, it's tough for me to make the stories I want tell about the incredible human beings and organizations from where I'm from in Western North Carolina. Luckily, I was briefly back home for a week and was determined to tell a story. Connecting up with an old friend, I was introduced to the team at PODER Emma, and shown the incredible work they are doing to fight back against displacement in the various mobile home communities around Asheville. The sheer amount of love they have for their own community, and a viable pathway to ownership of not only their homes but the land it sits on was incredibly inspiring. I knew I wanted to make a film for them.
