Filmmaker Statement

The initial spark for the film came from a bizarre news story; a spate of exotic snakes being found abandoned on waste-ground and fields in the local area. The snakes had been neglected, unclear whether they ’d been left to be found or left to die by their owners. It got me thinking about the conflicting stories; was it an act of wanton cruelty of by uncaring abuser, or an act of mercy by an otherwise caring animal lover in the face of no alternative? A desperate Mother leaving a baby on a strangers door-step, ringing the bell before she leaves in a flood of tears, or an uncaring abuser sick of its wailing who simply wishes to heartlessly offload his burden? A helpless mother or a heartless Monster? It’s not as clear to me as it should be, and perhaps its a matter of perspective, how far we are willing to extend our empathy, but what is clear is that good people are capable of being both. This story is about trying to understand the heartless Monsters.
