ROGER, MY BROTHER is an 88-minute documentary filmed in Alsace, France, portraying the profound bond between my grandmother Christiane and her brother Roger, who suffered from senile dementia. Refusing to place him in a nursing home, she cared for him until his death in 2019, honoring a promise never to abandon him. This film is a tribute to her devotion, to the dignity of aging, and to the strength of sibling love. Shot in black and white within the intimacy of their home, it challenges the norm of institutional care and offers a reflection on love, illness, and mortality. With a raw, contemplative approach—natural light, handheld camera, minimal yet precise sound design—the film invites the viewer to experience Roger’s world from within. Featuring the work of colorist Marc Boucrot and sound designer Julien Racine, ROGER, MY BROTHER is a tender, immersive portrait of familial commitment and the emotional complexity of caring for a loved one at the end of life.
