My personal experience with the subject matter was what initially drew me to this project, and in Heather I saw an uncommonly relatable numbness and pragmatism in her depressed state which really endeared me to her and made for an interesting character development challenge. I’ve always been fascinated by the tightrope walk between tragedy and comedy, and how real situations rarely lean exclusively to one or the other. No matter how bad your situation, the world around you never seems to take it as seriously as you do. Whether a fart at a funeral, or a knock at the door while your head’s through a noose, life loves to puncture gravitas and dignity with comical timing.  In addition to exploring the above, I wanted Heather’s story to end on a hopeful note. Her situation remains far from perfect, but I like to think that what comes next for her feels more manageable somehow.
