Produced as a part of my final Masters project - Rosedrop was born out of my sheer curiosity for thriller and Neo-noir genres. Having a chance to direct a longer short film for the first time, I hoped to write a story that explored the psyche of female anti-heroes. Thus was born the character of Talia - an alluring busker who bore the pain of losing her sister. Through several revisions however, the script was scrutinized to the point where I believe Talia feels lost in her quest. She is isolated and grows suspicious of her surroundings - of her neighbor, roommate and even the audience. Her paranoia leads to her seeking revenge for her sister. Filmed in Bournemouth in UK, while the story is set in London, I worked closely with my PD to build Talia’s world. The era too is ambiguous, so there are props that appear to be retro yet futuristic. Talia is mystifying - my DOP and I captured her psyche through a combination of lighting and camera movements - of disturbance and melancholia.
