We chose to make Seeing Read in order to capture a universally relatable aspect of modern life: the anticipation of a text back from someone you have a crush on. Modern dating has evolved into a labyrinthine dance of texting, swiping, and ghosting. Our film mirrors the experiences so, so many of us, who are forced to navigate the often absurd digital dating landscape. Zoey’s endearingly chaotic journey resonates with viewers who empathise with her palpable frustration and humiliation at being “left on read”. We sought to experiment technically, using the Phantom slow-motion camera to contrast Zoey's frenzied waiting with her love interest Miles’ total obliviousness, thus amplifying the comedy of the situation. Ultimately, we wanted to present the highs and lows of online dating in a fresh and engaging way, providing a unique lens through which to explore the complexities of modern love, emphasising that beneath the digital facade, real emotions and connections persist.
