Birth is hard. The first time you give birth, you’ve likely spent months learning about birth from childbirth educators, talking about birth with friends, preparing for birth with the help of doulas and maternity ward tour guides and buying random shit like aromatherapy diffusers from earthy moms at bespoke baby shops. But when labor actually starts? It’s just you. Not you and your partner. Not you and your obstetrician. Not even you and the baby. It’s just you and yourself. The pain, the doubt, the fear is all yours. This is (yet another!) women’s health experience nobody talks about. After giving birth three times, I wanted to talk about it. Yes it’s hard to give birth to a baby but it’s even harder to give birth to a mother.
