I have always been drawn to the dark side of cinema, the ideas and images from early exposure to “horror” for better or for worse are seared into my brain. When I started writing “Shiver” I wanted to tell a story that got as many of my core fears as possible into it, after over 65 drafts I landed on something that felt not only scary to me but felt unique to me. I don't know where this story came from but now that I see the final film I know it came from my deepest and earliest influences and more importantly my deepest and earliest fears. I wrote the script with a location (my in-laws home) and three actors in mind which really helped me flush things out. I knew Chris Mulkey (Twin Peaks, Whiplash) because we worked together on a music video for the band “Night Moves”. Chris impressed me greatly on that set, it was seriously low budget but he was so professional and treated our crew seriously. His performance and attitude were incredible and I’ve been dying for a chance to work with him again. I also knew Teddy Lee and Chelsea Lopez as friends, I had seen their work and have been dying to work with them both as well. So I had a location and three cast members and we dove right in. I owe so much to my collaborators, all of whom were incredible and whom I love so much, but especially Dan Carr who edited the film and helped me find the story from early scripts to the polished edit Dan was truly an invaluable partner.
