Personal note aside from being close to my hairstylist, Joanna, (the only person permitted to cut my hair), I saw this story as a vulnerable, creative space where women of all kinds can grow together through sharing struggles of their day-to-day lives. Female friendships are some of the most profound and meaningful aspects of my personal life, and, as a kid, I grew up hearing stories from my grandmother about her mother’s experiences in the 50s going to salons. Upon reading this script, I felt deeply connected to her and her mother – whom I never met – in a really impactful way. But world aside, the story is a director’s playground. There’s so much room for Nancy and Camille to really expand as fully-fledged characters that can really shine on and off the screen. And, as soon as I read this script, I thought of my mom. She's not only my best friend and go to hair consultant, but she was a domestic violence judge for more than 10 years. When I read this script, I didn't just see Nancy - I saw the countless faces my mother has helped to bring out of their grief-stricken situations. I hope that by creating "Siren Salon" we may provide an outlet for all those - both on and of the screen - who feel powerless to feel seen, heard, known, and loved.
