Filmmaker Statement

Working in commercial production, I found myself frustrated at the lack of pro-active engagement in finding and developing diverse young talent. I already worked as a volunteer mentor for the ‘Creative Mentor Network,’ but I felt like there wasn't really a platform to engage with young people in my community who were not already 'in the industry' or at least had an understanding of it. I visited my local community centres, meeting with young people interested in film. We had 10 of them on set that had never been on a film shoot before, but wanted to find a route in. All of them were partnered up with an experienced crew member for one to one shadowing. The idea with the film was to create a fun pastiche of heist ‘thriller’ films. Leaning somewhat into stereotype and genre conventions, but cleverly subverting the audiences expectations with an ending they hopefully don’t see coming. One that is uplifting and positive. I hope you'll consider us for the honour of screening with you.
