Filmmaker Statement

STRING HEAD is a state of mind where your thoughts suffocate you late at night, rendering you unable to fall asleep. This state is characterized by the creature String Head in the film as the deepest, darkest part of one’s self that comes to life when the man is unable to fall asleep. The red threads in the film are based on east Asian folklore that suggests soulmates are bonded by an invisible red thread. This film twists that folklore into suggesting that, late at night, a person is inevitably connected to the darkest part of themselves. The objects in the red threads symbolize general anxieties: Childhood, money, time, passions, love, religion, and death.
