Filmmaker Statement

After animating inside for my entire career, I wanted to bring the medium outside. With this came unique challenges that largely guided the creation of Sum of its Parts. Moving light and unpredictable weather limited how long I could work on a shot, so I chose replacement animation for its efficiency. I hand sculpted and painted dozens of sculptures for this film. Ultimately, Sum of its Parts represents the intersection of my love for nature and animation.
