I wanted to reflect the kinetic and playful nature of Tasche’s new album through crafting an uncanny haunted house, drawing inspiration from melodrama, David Lynch, and the tactility of punk. In lieu of evoking the dark aesthetic typically expected of “horror” films we filled the frame with color and texture, crafted anthropomorphic oversized vacuum puppets, and my production designer and closest collaborator, Sarah VanDerMeer, transformed household objects into playful and strange puppets. I built the world of the video with a small team over the course of a month, leaning heavily on the colorful, DIY aesthetic reflected in our signature, hand-crafted visual language. It has been deeply meaningful to me to be trusted with crafting intricate and stylized worlds to accompany the music of New Orleans artists to be shared with communities outside of our city, while simultaneously pulling so much inspiration from the play and craftsmanship embedded in New Orleans carnival culture.
