Filmmaker Statement

The Butterfly stems from personal experience – with members of the production team having gone through the ordeals of trying to make it within the modeling industry and the toll it can take on a person’s confidence and even their entire sense of self-worth. The Butterfly provides a powerful message about body positivity and self-empowerment at a time where the goal posts are shifting and body types of all different shapes and sizes are being celebrated and appreciated. EL, our lead character, and the journey she embarks on throughout the story, won’t just appeal to aspiring models, but can be relatable to everyone. In the world we live in now, it’s becoming harder and harder to love yourself. We are bombarded with the unrelenting façade of social media that constantly warps our perceptions of beauty and self-worth. El’s journey provides a refreshing reminder to us all that we can break away from the negativity, and that we truly can... “be fearless”. Enjoy! Nick and Chris
