This film stemmed from a chat I had with myself and co-writer Hugh Allen about how people value themselves—or, more specifically, certain parts of themselves. We mused over what happens when they lose that something. Things took a dark turn exploring what it means to brace for the inevitable, to play it safe, and to take risks. I think if I boiled it down I made this film because I felt I needed to make a film. And I'd put too much bloody work into this script to not see it through. I'd spent the better part of a year over-planning, playing it safe, missing out on opportunities and I was gonna be damned if I didn't do something with all that wasted time. So I created this short as a sort of teaching point for myself (a lesson I didn't know I needed to learn in the moment) and as a cautionary tale for others.
