Filmmaker Statement

As a biracial and bisexual woman who grew up in a predominately white and conservative suburb, I’ve never known what it felt like to belong. I’m interested in telling the stories of us outsiders, the people who have never had the luxury of “fitting in.” There are a lot of folks like me, but our stories don’t get told. I knew that if I wanted to tell the stories of Black girls who don’t neatly fit inside boxes, those who have sought joy despite tremendous pain, that I was going to have to do it myself. And so, for my birthday this year, I poured my own money into making that happen. THE ERRAND is not only just the beginning for me, but the ultimate gift to myself and hopefully some of the other black sheep out there.
