In June 2019, as a result of drastic changes in my work environment followed by toxic relationships and unsettling thoughts, a cloud of sadness creeped into my life. The world’s sorrows escalated the situation. For the first time in my life, I found myself in a state of mind, also known as depression. My family convinced me to move home for a year while the world was shut down due to Covid-19. As hard as it was leaving a life I had built for myself in Los Angeles, I knew being with my family was the right choice. The many months of quarantine helped me learn to slow down. With my mother’s patience and love, my father’s wisdom and care, and my friend’s support I started to slowly find my soul again. My journey birthed this short story. The List is meant to remind us of the importance of community, family, love, our worth and our purpose, even when the light at the end of the tunnel is so hard to see.
