Filmmaker Statement

More now than ever before, we need to feel inspired and believe that movements can work. The Bharat Jodo Yatra ("Unite India March") did something quite significant and it was a large-scale public display of every day people who believed that India should and can be secular, following aspects of its socialist and democratic practises as outlined when it became independence. When the Indian General Election in 2025 took place, we braced ourselves for another Modi landslide victory, and instead were shocked that his party had in fact lost the majority of seats in the Lok Sabhai (Parliament) and that they would need to form a coalition to win. Now, did the Yatra ("March") lead to this? Some say yes, others may argue otherwise. But what it did so for sure is that it made people feel that there was a collective across the country who wanted more from the current and incredibly divisive Modi regime.
