Louis, a Catholic friar struggling with his own faith, hears word of a girl who allegedly speaks directly to God, Joan of Arc. Angered and jealous at the possibility that this peasant girl could have been chosen by the Lord over himself, he seeks her out the night before her execution for heresy. Under the guise of a final confession, Louis attempts to squeeze the truth out of the prisoner, only to find that her faith is stronger than he ever could have imagined.
