Filmmaker Statement

The Missing Girl was a project that I had been planning for years after I had come across an article on Gendercide. That inspired me to write the story. But I wanted to make it a little out-of-the-box. Thankfully the idea that came to my mind was actually very different and that was another inspiration. Today, thanks to a lady who equally patronized the subject and hence decided to produce the film, I was able to go ahead and materialize this short film. Because it was shot in a small town, I had to face many challenges when it came to hiring a camera or lighting equipment or even taking auditions of around 30 to 40 children before choosing the final four. But, today when I look back, I realize that the situation that I fought against and had to overcome was disorienting but very satisfying. I feel as an artist, it is my duty to bring certain issues like this to the forefront and try to make them mainstream, so that people talk about it, even if for some time. That is my effort.
