Filmmaker Statement

The Morisca emerged from a desire to explore memory not as history, but as something spiritual, fragmented, and inherited. I was deeply drawn to the silenced history of the Moriscos and to the emotional aftermath of exile: what remains of a people after language, faith, music, and home are systematically erased. Through a poetic and non-linear form, I wanted the film to feel like a wandering memory itself, suspended between dream and reality. Music, landscape, and silence became emotional carriers of grief, longing, and endurance. Rather than recreating history in a conventional sense, the film seeks to evoke the inner world of displacement and the quiet resilience of those who continue to carry culture and faith across generations.
