“The Outstanding Psychology of Sabina Spielrein”
The true story of Sabina Spielrein's journey as a groundbreaking psychoanalyst who forever changed modern psychology went uncredited until the 1970s when her papers to Jung and Freud were discovered.
In the wake of the war in Israel, Sabina Spielrein’s life and legacy need to be remembered. She was the first psychologist to theorize about child development, trauma, and the unconscious, often credited to Jung and Freud. After the death of her sister, she was sent to Carl Jung as a patient and unprecendently became a psychologist herself. It wasn't until the 1970s when her journals and research papers were found that her theories and complex relationship with Jung were discovered, along with letters between herself, Jung, and Freud. Though her life was cut short when she and her daughters were murdered by Nazis, her original theories are still used in modern psychology today. Currently, generations primarily learn about the men of psychology, which is not accurate. The female psychologists who came after her, namely Anna Freud and Melanie Klein, both studied under her, yet her name has been lost in historical accounts.
