Filmmaker Statement

"The Package" was initially inspired by, well, uh... porn. Yeah. Well, sort of. I like the thought of turning tropes on their heads, or playing out familiar scenarios typically used in one genre by setting them in another. Brainstorming, I wondered: What if you took a typical porn set up -- i.e. a deliveryman serving a package to an unsuspecting woman -- but placed it in reality? In my reality, I was struggling: There was the ever-looming existential worry that the life I had envisioned for myself would not come to be. And, above all, there was a desperate need to feel seen. I put all that into Ava, a woman experiencing depression on the brink of alcoholism. And, through the "what if?" premise I had thought up, the idea for The Package was born. This story is personal for me. It is my hope that someone out there may resonate with the feeling of lost and listlessness, and finding the spark through connection to have the courage to try again.
