Filmmaker Statement

The Recipe is a story about a woman trapped in her marriage in the 1970’s. It explores the frustration many women felt, and continue to feel, about the suffocating pressures of societal norms. I chose this time period specifically as it marks an important time in women’s liberation. Our protagonist uses an act of destruction to separate herself from not only the male perspective, but reality itself. I’m so very proud of what our small team accomplished with such a limited budget and schedule. The film was shot in 3 days and had several location moves, while maintaining the time period it's set in. We had a wonderful cast, led by Ashlynn Yennie of The Human Centipede, who gives a hypnotizing performance as our unraveling housewife. We also have a wonderful score from Alexander Taylor, an up and coming horror composer. I hope you enjoy it!
