The goal of this experience was to help Michael get out of prison but we now have this film that is being used as a tool for conversation, advocacy, and policy change. Michael has been able to travel around the country with the film to film festivals, non-profit events, and elected official sponsored events and share the film and speak about granting more clemency to cannabis prisoners. He started the Michael Thompson Clemency Project and is continuing to advocate for cannabis prisoners and share his experience. My goal for the film now is to continue the conversation that has existed around Michaels case. There is a lot more work to be done as cannabis eventually will be legalized federally and we will need to continue to grant clemency, re-sentence, and grant social equity to the communities most harmed by the war on drugs.
