Filmmaker Statement

I’ve been a huge fan of Tony’s music for years. Especially “Butterflies (Piano Sonata)”. It’s unironically one of my favourite songs. Whenever I hear it, it always makes me think of memories. Happy and sad. There’s a tone of bittersweet melancholy and reflection to it. Like nostalgia. I’m also really interested in the sentimentality of places. And so for a while now, I’ve been wanting to tell a story focusing on how beautiful a place can be, how much it can mean to someone, and then how empty it feels when none of those memories remain. When the opportunity to work with Tony came up, I told him that I wanted to make a video for “Butterflies” that was a bittersweet meditation focusing on a relationship - combining all the happiness and sadness that this entails. I wanted to explore a couple meeting, falling in love, moving in together, building a home, and then slowly drifting apart - contained within the walls of their home.
