I made 'Toots.' with two clear goals in mind. One, to stretch and grow as a writer/director. And two, to honor my mother with a small but important short film. The challenges to making 'Toots.' included a story device of having a comical set-up to a much more dramatic finish to the film. As well as devising a complicated sound design that walks a fine line between humor and empathy. The reception by audiences has been amazing! Simply, people from all walks of life resonate with the themes of taking care of an elder, or wondering about who will be their caretaker in late stages of life. Many have come up to me to tell me about "their person," whether it's a loved one they've lost, or someone they are currently caring for; almost everyone is reminded of someone they love after watching 'Toots.'
