Filmmaker Statement

TRINITY is a shapeshifting noirish romance riffing on the theme of the British Asian immigrant experience to present a new vision of modern hybrid identities. This is a film driven by an all-female cast, with complex characters, spectacular kung fu, and the story of a young British-born Asian woman’s ‘becoming’ as we haven’t seen before – told through a cinematic vision of supernatural avatar swaps that feel uncannily real, connecting all people beyond cultures. My vision for this film is to elevate marginal identities on screen through the recognisable languages of Hollywood cinema. Departing from the familiar onscreen depictions of immigrant ‘culture clash’, stylistically I have created a moodier solitary tone, like Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, with minimal dialogue, where music and sound are substantial characters. My filmmaking is informed by 20 years as a visual artist transcending culturally specific material to bring greater understanding to experiences of marginality.
