Filmmaker Statement

Very few GRAMMY-nominated artists start a music career in their mid-40s. And then there’s René Marie - a twice-nominated jazz vocalist with eleven albums under her belt. René’s story is a testament to the power and necessity of art. Making this film opened my eyes to the importance of listening to one’s inner needs and desires, and taught me to feel more secure in my own path. I hope Tuning René Marie invites its audience to take a moment and ask ‘What do I want and what do I need in this life to feel whole and fulfilled?’
