What can we believe when fake videos are indistinguishable from truthful ones? So-called "deepfakes" can be misused to shift public opinion, swing Presidential elections or silence individuals. In the hands of rogue states or criminals, the AI technology represents a disturbing new threat to democracy. VIC is an attempt to draw attention to this danger. The film is told via a laptop and a smartphone screen, devices on which deepfakes appear. These same devices also contain a person's secrets, desires and dreams, whilst acting as a window to the outside world. An interesting setting for a film, I thought.
