Filmmaker Statement

As an actor, you are often in a state of being observed. Observed by an audience, an inanimate camera and now, with self tapes, observed by oneself. With the virtual nature of how the audition process has evolved, performance has become increasingly isolating. You strive for truth and authenticity, sometimes finding yourself frustrated at not being able to achieve it and further frustrated at being able to reach that emotional truth only after the audition has ended. I wanted to create a film about performance and observation in which tone, mood and atmosphere replaces traditional narrative and character development, creating a feeling in the audience that makes an emotional, rather than logical, sense. Capturing a moment in time for one woman, alone, searching for authenticity.
