Filmmaker Statement

This film is a redemption story for Mary Todd Lincoln and the others like her who gave it all for others and got nothing back. This is a completely different portrayal of a woman we all know of, but never knew. While this is a historical film, the themes of mental health, grief, and social judgment are extremely relevant. This forgotten story illustrates how the treatment of women for “emotional” issues continues to be misogynistic and damaging to women even to this day. Women deserve to be heard, helped, and supported. In keeping with the spirit of the film, this film was led by a talented and passionate group of women. It was my honor to work with them. They each brought their own experiences of being silenced or pushed aside to their work. This collaboration created the beating heart of this film. Buckle up and get ready to let out your inner WILDCAT.
