Filmmaker Statement

Spanning just over 7km long, the East London line travels between North London and Liverpool St station and dates back to the late 19th Century. With its small carriages and overground stops, it is an unusual train amongst the busy underground network of the city. As the global political agenda changes at increasing pace, some of these changes seep into the commute, quietly but discernibly. The carriage becomes a places that is both the reflection of the outside and a shielded place in which to dance, laugh, feed babies and brush your hair - The public spaces of any great city being both a stage and a protective bubble. I wanted to capture the way people make the public space their own, no matter how fleeting the moments or small the platform. The film is a tribute to London and finding solace in everyday life. If community means shared experiences, we can be anonymous and be seen - we just need to look for it!
