Filmmaker Statement

World to Roam is a personal film about the difficulties and challenges of raising a child. Although it’s a surreal tale, at its core is a heartfelt reflection on the fleeting nature of childhood and the ever-evolving role of a parent. Life moves fast, especially when adapting to life with a baby. Milestones are quickly passed and the exhausting, interminable phase of infancy soon ends—never to be repeated. The child strives for independence, always moving forward, no matter where it may lead. They’re unsentimental about the passage of time, simply content in the moment. There’s a strong urge to keep them close, while also accepting they must one day forge their way in the world. In real-life this happens slowly, allowing time to adjust. The parents in World to Roam don’t have that luxury. Time is accelerated, testing them in extraordinary ways, pushing them to the limit.
