Filmmaker Statement

“You Don’t Say!” is a project of unabashed love and creativity. This short traverses many different genres in twelve minutes, including Westerns, Sci Fi, Film Noir, Romance and more! The project is a true collaboration between two writer/performers, a dedicated team of artists and technicians and myself, a filmmaker obsessed with the musical genre. At The Barn, our production company dedicated to making indie movie musicals, we believe that performances must be recorded live on set, not lip-synced to pre-recorded tracks. Even at a low budget level we’ve been able to achieve this goal. “You Don’t Say!” is proof that not only is this possible, it can be transcendent. The film is a celebration of books and film; and (did we mention?) it's a joyous musical—which we need more of in the world.
