Filmmaker Statement

Since my student years, I’ve been fascinated by how people from different classes and cities come together at university—a space where deep societal divides become visible. Unjustified is about modern dictatorship within a seemingly democratic society, where power, privacy, and identity collide. Set in a university, the film portrays an ordinary moment that spirals into a silent war between two systems of control: family and institution. At its center is a young woman—both student and wife—whose body and mind bear the impact. The story explores how women face pressure in the absence of support or legal clarity, often spoken for or defended by others. No one here is purely a villain or hero: Erfan, lost in anger; a husband clinging to control; and a professor who, behind professionalism, enforces repression. Unjustified reveals a painful truth: a woman’s voice often remains unheard—until it’s claimed by someone else.
