Filmmaker Statement

The story «1:10» is based on an absurd event that I experienced in my childhood. At that time, my father was attacked by a man he had never met before. The reason for this was a harmless argument between me and a classmate. The argument between the two fathers ended in death threats. This event, which took place over 15 years ago, has remained very much in my mind and I‘ve had the idea of making a film about it for some time, because this story combined several subjects that I wanted to explore: I wanted to question certain constructions of masculinity, examine the behavior of people in uncomfortable public situations, and show the migration issue from the perspective of the 2nd generation of immigrants. The approach of a father who thinks he can defend his son by attacking the father of the other son is both absurd and tragic to me.
