Filmmaker Statement

“A Blue Morning” comes from my grappling with choices in my mid-30s: whether or not to become a parent, to continue to pursue art (despite financial instability), to grow roots in a place or to spread my wings ever-more precariously. These questions linger even after choices are made. This film doesn’t offer concrete answers, nor does it offer authoritative talking heads. Instead, it’s an invitation to the dinner table - to be present in the liminal space. The film - a bit of an experimental ethnography - holds tender space for the tensions of artisthood and adulthood. Thanks to the non-actors who generously opened themselves to the production, "A Blue Morning" is a very on-the-nose, sincere look at the coming-of-age moment for thirty-somethings.
