Filmmaker Statement

A Cognac at the Indy 500 was written and shot over the course of an entire school year, but it feels like a story I've been cultivating for my entire lifetime. The questions the film proposes in regards to the philosophical vacancies and inconsistencies behind religious moralities as well as the craving for some kind of safeguard against the solitude of death are universal. I wanted to make a film that would be able to confront these longing questions with characters at the forefront who have distinct approaches in battling their demons, but share a lot more than they think under their masks of comfort.
