This is our (BLOK’s) first short film and we thought why not make it as difficult as possible… so, we decided to shoot outside in January, in period costume, with real antique firearms and rely on a fair bit of VFX in post… and guess what? We wouldn’t have done it any other way. Coming from commercials, we’re not always able to inject all our ideas into the work, so writing and directing our own film felt like the best way to do just that. We knew from the off that we had to create something that wasn’t set in the present day… something where we could transport the viewer to another place in time and experience something perhaps a little different. The film covers numerous themes and explores varying degrees of prejudice across the board: class, race, sex and the perception of ’the hero’. Throughout it toys with the very concept of heroism and ‘honour’… oh and being comedy directors n’ all, we tried to make it a little funny too.
