A High Price for Ginger Beer was written by a good friend and fellow filmmaker, Adam J Morgan, who based this period piece of his ancestry. I’m motivated by stories that make a difference, stories that teach us something and make you think. For me, A High Price encapsulates that. I think historical films get a bad rep… just because they’re set in the past doesn’t mean we have nothing to learn. Despite being set 100 years ago, Clarice’s story teaches us the universal lesson of forgiveness, family and redemption. One of my greatest inspirations was ‘A Beautiful Mind’, and in that vein I wanted to manipulate the timeline and leave the audience questioning what’s real, throwing themselves into Clarice’s mind and the turmoil of guilt, grief and denial she faces as she is forced to accept her involvement in the death of her nephew.
